H.Parker III August24, 1992 To Whom It May Concern: In August1991 the Williamsburg Players engaged Guernsey-Tingle Architects to perform a feasibility study of a major expansion of its theater, the James-York Playhouse. As president of the Players and chairman of its executive committee, I was both an active participant in the initial phases of the process and a careful observer of its completed result. I can recommend the services of Guernsey-Tingle with the greatest enthusiasm. Both Roger Guernsey and Tom Tingle attended numerous, and sometimes interminable, meetings with the Players Board. They assimilated the hugely optimistic notions of what our organization wanted in a renovated facility and, as the process wore on, helped the Board to a realistic understanding of what its limited resources could achieve. The result had the unlikely effect of pleasing everyone concerned. The schematic design and presentation drawings combined theatrical function, aesthetics, and cost efficiency in a way that may fairly be described as brilliant. I consider the finished product a model of its kind. Mr. Guernsey and Mr. Tingle, not content to embody the highest standards of professionalism, were also consistently pleasant and congenial. If I can l~rovide anv further information about mY exDerience with them, I shall be delighted to do so. Very truly yours,
George H. Parker III |
