Infusing sustainability creates long-term benefits for a community.

When a blighted property within Williamsburg was acquired by a local developer, they turned to GuernseyTingle with a vision for a project that would provide long-term benefits for the community. Obviously, they wanted buildings of the highest quality, but they also wanted to do the right thing by having those buildings mean something for the sustainability of the environment. While the owners weren’t seeking a LEED certification, GuernseyTingle brought our knowledge of sustainability and efficiency backed by our experience working with LEED certified projects to give them just that.

This vision evolved into a community of shops and restaurants that would be incorporated into the project along with 24 one- and two-bedroom condominiums, each featuring an office. “Green” features included recycled and renewable materials such as recycled paper countertops and bamboo cabinets, EnergyStar appliances, high-efficiency heating and cooling, and an enhanced insulation envelope. In addition, the streets and sidewalks are made of permeable materials, allowing rainwater to be collected and stored below for landscape irrigation and to be recharged into the aquifer.
