Wormley Creek Residence

Project Overview

  • The home is influenced by organic modern design.
  • The main space in this 2-story home faces the water and contains the kitchen, dining, and great rooms.
  • All of the other rooms in the home were designed to give the main space the most direct connection to the water.
  • The centerpiece of the great room is a stone fireplace with a dramatic, tapered design that extends to the roof.

The experience of the river in the main living space is the focal point of this organic modern-inspired home.

The focal point of this organic modern-inspired home is the main living space, designed to overlook and capture the experience of the river. The centerpiece of the great room is a stone fireplace with a dramatic, tapered design that extends to the roof of the 2-story space. The main area is not-so-subtly separates the dining and living spaces by a dramatic open steel staircase with natural wood treads.  The home contains several bedrooms as well as a dedicated office and a media room that overlooks the second-floor deck and the river beyond, replicating the experience of the main space.

This 2-story waterfront building utilizes natural and organic materials in more minimalistic or unconventional ways by incorporating natural stone as anchors to sections of the exterior and utilizing siding and natural wood to contrast and balance the stone in other areas. Large roof overhangs and a lower slope hip roof lends itself to the modernist aesthetic and benefiting from the cost efficiency and lower maintenance of a sloped roof versus a flat one.
