Celebrating a Legacy: Tom Tingle Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

GuernseyTingle is proud to celebrate a monumental recognition for one of our own. Tom Tingle, former president and long-time leader of the firm, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce.

This prestigious honor is reserved for individuals whose enduring dedication, visionary leadership, and lasting impact have profoundly influenced the Greater Williamsburg business community. Tom’s legacy is one of deep commitment, not only to architectural excellence, but also to civic service and economic development.

Tom joined GuernseyTingle just four months after it was founded in 1983 and quickly became a driving force behind the firm’s growth and strategic direction. His leadership helped shape our culture and expand our reach across industries and disciplines. As the head of our planning practice, he played a key role in facilitating collaborative project approaches that have become a hallmark of our work.

But Tom’s influence extends far beyond the walls of our office. Over the decades, he has served on numerous boards and committees dedicated to improving the region. His service includes the Board of Directors for the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Design Build Institute of America, chairmanship of the YMCA of Virginia Peninsulas, and board roles with Greater Peninsula NOW and the Williamsburg Health Foundation. He also served as Chair of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce from 1998–1999 and as Past Chair of the James City County Economic Development Authority.

Tom’s passion for community, thoughtful leadership, and unwavering dedication have made an indelible mark on the region. The Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting tribute to his decades of impact and the legacy he continues to inspire.
