Fairbanks Morse Defense Campus Breaks Ground in Chesapeake
GuernseyTingle is playing a key role on the design-build team creating a new 45,000 square foot training and service center campus for Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) in Chesapeake, VA.
The defense contractor plans to move its existing service center from Norfolk, Va., to the Chesapeake campus to further extend its support for the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, U.S. Coast Guard, and other naval defense customers based in Norfolk and the surrounding area.
Designs for FMD’s expansive new Chesapeake Training and Service Center call for:
- 13,000 square feet of training center shop space, including four fully dressed workstations with four different FMD engines.
- 20,000 square feet of service center space, providing full-service capabilities for equipment overhauls, repairs, and exchanges.
- 6,000 square feet for training center offices, classrooms, break rooms, and conference space.
- 6,000 square feet for service center offices, a tech library, a service center classroom, and break rooms.
GuernseyTingle is working closely with Heartland Construction, Roach Consulting Engineers, IDG and Speight, Marshall & Francis on the $13 million project that broke ground in July of 2022 and is slated for completion in 2023.
