Each year, the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) offers academic scholarships to assist students pursuing careers in engineering, design, construction and related professions. During the rigorous application process, candidates are evaluated on their academic performance, relationship of course study to the engineering, design and construction industry, extracurricular activities, community involvement, work history and attitude.

GuernseyTingle intern Michelle Sterling was one of three candidates to be awarded a scholarship during the 2022 cycle.

Michelle plans to graduate from Virginia Tech in the spring of 2023. While at Virginia Tech, the Yorktown native completed a semester-long design residency program at the Villa Maderni in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland and has developed a passion for historic restoration and renovation/adaptive reuse.

GuernseyTingle offers valuable college internship opportunities each summer, giving students a chance to participate in project meetings, site and client visits while allowing them to extend their knowledge in design and construction.
