GuernseyTingle Principal and Board Chair Kristin Baum Earns 2024 Virginia Business Women in Leadership Award
GuernseyTingle’s Kristin Baum, AIA, LEED AP, was among a select group of female business leaders from across the Commonwealth honored with 2024 Women in Leadership awards from Virginia Business magazine. The annual awards program celebrates women in C-suite or equivalent positions who have demonstrated extraordinary professional achievements, including breaking glass ceilings, mentoring others, engaging in civic work and bringing their leadership skills to nonprofit and company boards.
Baum was one of just 38 women in the 2024 Women in Leadership Award cohort, chosen from a pool of more than 250 nominees. She was also among the eight women featured on the cover of the magazine’s July 2024 issue.
Baum joined GuernseyTingle in 2001, became a Vice President in 2015 and is currently serving as Principal and Chairman of the Board of the firm that celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024. A recognizable leader in the professional community, she was a recipient of the Greater Williamsburg Business Council’s “15 Under 50” Award in its inaugural year, 2019.
With Baum serving as Vice President at GuernseyTingle, the company was named among the Best Architecture Firms in the Eastern Region by Virginia Living magazine three years in a row, and one of the Best Places to Work in Virginia by Virginia Business magazine for three of the last four years.
GuernseyTingle is committed to creating a diverse and empowering workplace. The SWaM-certified small business became woman-owned in 2024, and four of the firm’s seven principals are women.
Baum manages a wide variety of projects at GuernseyTingle, from residential to hospitality and restoration/renovation. A tireless advocate for employees, she also manages recruiting, staffing and human resource policies, among other internal responsibilities. She is especially committed to mentoring the next generation of women, both inside and outside the firm.
Baum has received numerous awards for her work, including a Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate (HRACRE) Award of Merit in Sustainable Design for the Williamsburg Municipal Building Expansion and Renovation, and a HRACRE Award of Excellence, Best Renovated or Best Historic Renovation, for the DoG Street Pub.
She also excelled in college, graduating summa cum laude from Virginia Tech as the valedictorian for the school architecture.
