In the News: Williamsburg’s new Fire Station No.1 Featured in Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment Magazine

Recently, the new 32,000 square foot Williamsburg (VA) Fire Station No. 1 was the focus of a Station Features piece in Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment magazine.

In an article entitled “Three Firms Team Up on Design and Construction of Williamsburg (VA) Fire Station No. 1,” journalist Alan Petrillo noted how the new facility combines the functions of a fire and emergency medical services (EMS) station, fire administration, and an emergency operations center (EOC) for Williamsburg.

GuernseyTingle Principal and Project Manager Amanda Running was quoted throughout the article, explaining how the exterior of the state-of-the-art station is designed in finished brick and metal panels. “The city wanted a modern looking building, but one that still fit in with the character of the older structures in town, so we incorporated columns with notches into the station like the municipal building across the street,” said Amanda.

“We also designed an area of the lobby in the front of the station that contains the department’s antique fire truck museum,” Amanda continued, underscoring the many features and design choices made for this truly multi-purpose facility.

Project partners included David A. Nice Builders, Inc. and Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects, as well as TAM Consultants, Inc., Thompson Consulting Engineers, and VHB. To read the full article, visit the magazine’s website.
