Northern Neck Family YMCA – Monroe Family Aquatic Center

GuernseyTingle is proud of our association with the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas and its work supporting the communities from Smithfield to the Northern Neck.

The firm worked closely with YMCA leadership and project stakeholders to design an aquatics facility to meet their goals and expand beyond in the future.

The Monroe Family Aquatic Center was an expansion to the Northern Neck Family YMCA in Kilmarnock, Virginia. The indoor pool features 6 lanes with an ADA-accessible ramp that expands the YMCA’s aquatics programs, therapy, swimming lessons and swim meet space for the surrounding community and local high school teams.  Promoting water safety is paramount to the YMCA in a community that is surrounded by rivers and waterways. The pool was designed for the beginner swimmer as well as the competitive swimmer and future lifeguard.

A unique HVAC system was utilized in this facility which introduces more fresh air than a typical natatorium without being a detriment to heating and cooling costs. This creates healthier indoor air quality and a less corrosive environment for the building systems.

The outdoor pool features a beach-style entry side full of spouts and bubbles and a 15-foot tall double-twisting water slide.
