Room to Grow: James City County Breaks Ground on New Government Center

James City County marked an important milestone with the groundbreaking of its new Government Center, a transformative civic project designed to better serve residents and support the County’s continued growth. Community leaders, County staff, and project partners gathered at the site on Longhill Road to celebrate the start of construction and the vision behind this long-term investment in public service.

The new Government Center will consolidate 12 County departments into a single, modern facility, creating a more efficient and accessible experience for residents while improving collaboration among staff. By bringing services together under one roof, the County aims to streamline operations and provide a more user-friendly environment for those who live and work in James City County.

Designed as a central civic hub, the facility will include flexible public meeting spaces that can accommodate Board of Supervisors meetings as well as community gatherings. A structured parking garage will improve access to the site, and the campus is being planned to integrate with a future Williamsburg Regional Library branch, reinforcing the Government Center’s role as a focal point for civic and community life.
