Trail Blazers: Ribbon Cutting of Williamsburg Fire Station

GuernseyTingle played a key role in the successful design-build delivery of the state-of-the-art 31,000-square-foot fire station replacing the old Williamsburg Fire Station at its site on North Boundary Street, where the department had been since 1978. Combining the functions of the fire/EMS, fire administration, and emergency operations, the new two-floor facility incorporates elements of modern public safety design while maintaining the iconic look and feel of our city.

Members of Williamsburg City Council as well as fire department personnel took part in a ribbon-cutting at the facility, standing by as Fire Chief Snyder used a fire ax to make the ceremonial cut.

Among the features of the new station is a museum, which traces the Williamsburg Fire Department’s history from the first all-volunteer force created in 1753 to the hiring of the first paid fire marshal in 1950 to today’s station. Elements of the past decorate the station’s walls, with photos from the department’s history hanging along the corridors.

The new fire station project officially began with the demolition of the 1978 station in February 2022. The groundbreaking of the site took place on Friday, April 22, 2022, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new station took place on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

In addition to GuernseyTingle, the design-build-team included David A. Nice Builders, Inc., TAM Consultants, Inc., Stewart Cooper Newell Architects P.A., Thompson Consulting Engineers, and VHB.
