Two in a Row: GuernseyTingle Again Makes Virginia Business List of Best Places to Work
Virginia Business magazine has again placed GuernseyTingle on its list of the Best Places to Work in Virginia, honoring the team at a ceremony luncheon in Charlottesville.
The 13th annual list, available now at virginiabusiness.com, was compiled in partnership with the Best Companies Group and will be featured in the February issue of Virginia Business magazine.
This statewide survey and awards program identifies, recognizes, and honors the best places of employment in Virginia, benefiting the state’s economy, workforce, and businesses. The 2023 Best Places to Work in Virginia list is made up of 100 companies. More than 200 companies applied for inclusion.
For the second year in a row, GuernseyTingle was one of only two architecture firms to make the overall list. The firm, which has made the list three out of the past four years, takes great pride in a values-based culture that encourages collaboration and a mentoring philosophy in the workplace. The culture is also strengthened by the firm’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee whose efforts help promote an open and honest workplace environment.
Culture was a key theme of a Virginia Business article on the 2023 Best Places to Work that profiled GuernseyTingle and other leading companies’ efforts to overcome the challenges of a hybrid work environment during the pandemic. “If you can’t maintain the culture, then it’s just a place to work,” noted GuernseyTingle President Tom Tingle in the article, underscoring the importance of maintaining the personality and character of the company, no matter the work environment.
Virginia Business also interviewed GuernseyTingle Vice President Kristin Baum for the article, who shared examples of initiatives such as “stressbusters,” the regular get-togethers that the firm uses to strengthen connections and engagement across the team.
GuernseyTingle has grown to become one of the largest architectural firms on the Virginia Peninsula and a leader in the team-build design philosophy that emphasizes collaboration and partnership with clients. The firm is celebrating its 40th anniversary later this year.
