A fire house must be designed with many diverse functions to serve and protect the modern firefighter.
As part of an annual contract with Chesterfield County Fire Department, GuernseyTingle designed the 15,000+ square foot neighborhood fire station to complement the surrounding development. Working with a national public safety expert, the building addresses unique issues facing modern fire station design. The station must protect first responders from contaminants and vehicle exhaust in the living areas, have quick and safe access to apparatus bays from all areas of the station, provide sound separation in the living quarters, and include flexibility for an ever-changing workforce.
