Brooke Reale
Interior Designer
“The spaces we inhabit are profound representations of our shared stories.”
Williamsburg native, Brooke Reale, earned her Bachelor of Arts from the Interior Design program at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has always enjoyed analyzing the connections between cultural identity and the built environment. Her favorite parts of the design process are the initial interview, trailed by schematic and concept building, where art meets design.
In her work with commercial businesses, Brooke draws inspiration from her conceptual art to infuse spaces with storytelling and create branding. Amidst an era of overconsumption, she prioritizes reclaiming significance from our surroundings and enjoys empowering others to create meaningful spaces for their communities or themselves. She thrives on expanding clients’ imaginations and finding playful elements that reflect their personal or communal narratives. Brooke particularly enjoys projects that challenge conventional approaches, using juxtaposition to create spaces with a dynamic sense of conflict, characteristic of compelling storytelling.
While in college, some of her favorite experiences came from specialized programs. She participated in a pilot program for VCU IDES, the Eastern Shore Study Away Program, where the group studied waterfront communities affected by changing environmental conditions. During this experience, she participated in a design-build project that was a memorial to those who lived and died in the Almshouse / Pest House at the Barrier Island Center. She spent the summer of 2023 in a program at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. There, she took a sketchbook studies class focusing on understanding and reading the architectural environment through onsite experiences.
In her free time, she enjoys gardening, spending time in nature, and planning out her next excursion. On the weekends, you can find her at the local farmer’s markets and, most importantly, with her Border Collie, Storm.
