Past President

“We as architects can provide a great service to our communities through volunteering and offering leadership.”

Tom is past president of GuernseyTingle, joining the firm just four months after it was founded in 1983. He currently supports the firm in a part-time role. For years, Tom was responsible for the firm’s strategic focus and business performance. He managed growth, diversification, and development, as well as defining business objectives and staff development. Tom also led GuernseyTingle’s planning practice and is known for his work in facilitating project group participation.

The son of a country doctor who made house calls, Tom pursued architecture, graduating from Virginia Tech and working for architecture/engineering firms in Norfolk before coming to GuernseyTingle in 1984. He has been involved in a number of economic development and civic organizations, including the James City County Economic Development Authority, chair for the YMCA of Virginia Peninsulas, and past president of Virginians for High Speed Rail.
