Kilmarnock Town Centre Park

Project Overview

  • 9 acre multi-use park
  • Sustainable practices were implemented within the design

A look reminiscent of typical Northern neck architecture and the beautiful construction of the deadrise boats commonly used by a Kilmarnock oysterman

Located in the town’s commercial district, Kilmarnock Park has quickly become a hub of community recreation, drawing both local and regional events. As part of the design team, GuernseyTingle worked with the land planner to coordinate site layout and functionality. Additionally, the firm designed the park structures – a colonnade for farmer’s markets and events, an amphitheater and plaza area, restrooms, and park support facilities.

The buildings are not only reminiscent of typical Northern neck architecture, but are also a nod to the simple but beautiful construction of the deadrise boats commonly used by a Kilmarnock oysterman. Wherever possible, sustainable practices were implemented, including pervious and impervious parking to reduce stormwater runoff, low-maintenance landscaping, and energy-efficient building systems and envelope construction.
